In Chinese tradition, Zhong Kui is revered as the vanquisher of ghosts and evil spirits (赐福镇宅圣君). Sun Shiliang’s watercolor paintings depict him with his signature fierce expression, classic red robes, black official hat, and demon-quelling sword.
Sun Shiliang (孙世良) is a renowned contemporary Chinese artist particularly distinguished for his masterful folk painting and folk-art depictions of Lianpu (脸谱)—the traditional facial makeup patterns used in Chinese opera, most notably Peking Opera.
